About William J Dorsett

William J Dorsett was born in the DFW area of Texas in 1977.  He was raised in a small town in Texas by his grandparents, and had lived there most of his younger life.  All through out school, William spent more time drawing than studying. In 2001 a friend of his, Catrina, let him use her paints one day. This lead to him painting often as a hobby. 

In 2004 William moved to San Diego, and shortly after that learned how to make palm frond roses. William went out one day after to make roses for fun but ended up making more money than he had all week at his day job. So he quit working his day job and dived into being a full time artist. Along the way William learned how to make all sorts of things out of Palms. Occasionally he would also sell palm husks that were painted. He also sold acrylic paintings he made from time to time.

Then one day in 2006 William went to Mexico, and on the walk back he saw a spray paint artist. This inspired him to go home and try, which lead to failure. That failure lead William to read, watch videos, and try again until he acquired the right knowledge. Still the paintings didn’t turn out as good as they did in the videos.      

William practiced, and continued on, till he learned how to make the spray paint art. From there William learned how to do all sorts of things, from stencil design, to digital/ graphic arts. William continues to learn more, and has the attitude that, “I can learn”, is a better alternative to, “I can’t”.

“I find that consciousness expansion is the main inspiration to my work. As it is a way to connect with the microcosm and to reach out word into the macrocosm so that everything is noticed by ALL.

I find it most inspiration to lose myself in the sights and sounds, as my music plays in the background, my paint flows on the canvas, and the reality I create forms.

I feel the way we use colors can awaken things that are in the depths of our sub-consciousness, waiting to be set free. As with any creative endeavor, I put my soul into, I tend to use many types of mediums, and colors to help others find or feel some form of connection. In this I am satisfied.”
